The Details...

Newly pressed rectangles warming my hand

Newly pressed rectangles warming my hand

Just the other day, I was cutting, sewing, and pressing 2"x4" rectangles, and I was taken by the joy I get from such a simple task.  I love to sew them and press them until they are warm and comfortable in my hand.  I love the sound of the sewing machine as it works along each seam.  I like the sound of my rotary cutter slicing through the fabric.  The details...the smallest parts of my work...make me immensely happy!  I even enjoy working out the math of a new project.  What is the design? How much fabric should I cut?  How many rectangles, squares, or pieces will I need?  Quilting and sewing in general are about the tiniest details that come together to make a beautiful finished piece, and I am glad that I get to spend so much of my day working on those small parts.  I have only really mentioned the piecing part, too, I may have to create another post where I discuss the actual quilting of a piece.  :)
